Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday after the team's 10-match without a victory beginning to the Premier League campaign.

Furthermore both candidates - each of whom have previous associations to the team - are among the options to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would pose a potential hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

However the ex- Luton head coach - who played over a century of games for the club during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves board as they start the search of hiring a new head coach.

O'Neil is additionally appearing as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a shock appointment considering he was sacked by the club in December last year.

The former West Ham United player is out of work which means the club would not need to provide any compensation.
