Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then located multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say early analysis show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not aware of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for information.
A senior representative commented the incident made him without words and had to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
